Central Florida Birth Network
Pre-natal Resources
Here in Central Florida we have amazing, educated, compassionate women, to assist you in your pregnancy, labor and delivery.
Childbirth Educators instruct classes for expectant families to help them be better-prepared for labor and delivery. They are often certified by one or more organizations, meaning they have studied that organization’s specific birthing philosophy (Lamaze, HypnoBirthing, Bradley, Birthing From Within and others).
Labor Support Doulas attend to the emotional and physical comfort needs of laboring women. They do not perform clinical tasks but rather use massage, aromatherapy, positioning suggestions, etc. to help labor progress smoothly. A labor support doula joins a laboring woman as labor begins and remains with her until a few hours after the birth.
In addition to emotional support, doulas work as advocates of their client’s wishes and may assist in communicating with medical staff and obtain information so their clients can make informed decisions regarding medical procedures.
Postpartum Doulas are trained to offer families evidence-based information and support on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents. They may also help with light housework, fix a meal and help incorporate an older child into this new experience.
Midwifery is the term traditionally used to describe the art of assisting a woman through childbirth. These health care providers are experts in women's health care including giving prenatal care to expecting mothers. They attend the birth of the infant and provide postpartum care. Practitioners of midwifery are known as midwives, a term used in reference to both women and men (the term means "with woman").
